So I took a nap yesterday afternoon (like I’ve semi-grown accustom to) and then went to bed early last night (because I’m lame and old) and woke up early this morning.  I decided since I couldn’t make myself sleep anymore I’d turn on the TV. I watched the Saturday morning news on WIBW out of Topeka.  Love WIBW big fan! Now I’m not saying I don’t make mistakes…and I’m really not saying I haven’t made a mistake on-air…however this one really made me laugh! They have a fairly new weather chic named Amy on WIBW.  She’s from Minnesota…if I recall correctly..and she’s great. Now granted she’s new to the area unfamiliar with Kansas and all, but she made a BIG oops today.  I kinda feel bad for her.  She was talking about the weekend weather…doing a fine job of it… and then starting talking about weather that would impact sporting events in the area.  She points to Lawrence on her map and says something along the lines of “If you’re headed to Lawrence today to Snyder Family Stadium to see the Jayhawks take on Missouri it’ll be a soggy day and you want to wear layers….” Ok she continued on just fine but lets look back shall we.

1.) KU’s stadium is not “Snyder Fmaily Stadium” that’s KSU BIIIIIIGGG difference.

2.) Snyder Family Staidum is not in Lawrence.

3.) KU isn’t even playing in Lawrence today.. they’ll be playing at Arrowhead Stadium for the border showdown.

Like I said, its not as if I haven’t ever made a mistake…but I just found this hilarious and felt so bad for her at the same time.  I think she’s great but this was a major slip up (to me.)

I’m sure I’ll make lots of mistakes as I go about my own work today.  Doing the Furniture store again today…woot woot!

Howdy Ya’ll

Nothing major to blog about just a general “What’s Up” post.

Thursday Robert was gone from the morning show…he had to go help a friend (B.K.) in Iowa move out because he was being evicted. Kinda ironic in many ways 1.)because of who B.K. is and 2.)who would ask Robert to help them move?  I ran the show and Rodney sat in the corner and put in his negative 2 cents. It was pretty good though.  Not award winning by any means but not horrible.  My dad chopped his finger Wednesday.  Apparently you don’t want to stick your finger into a running leaf blower with the blades exposed.  Who knew?  Crazy kid….went home this weekend and hung with him and mom. Had a good time…cooking, shopping, playing computer games, eating with the neighbors, playing with the dog, giving the dog a bath, and other general merriment.

Felt pretty smart today had a big website problem and thought I was at my wits end…however my wits went farther than I had expected!  I celebrated with a Frosty and Fries lunch!

Plan on going to El Dorado for Thanksgiving with the Poolers.  Might go to Council Grove on Wednesday after work to help go through the rest of gpa’s stuff before heading to El Dorado…otherwise I’ll head out Thursday morning.

Great weekend!! November 16, 2008

WOW what a great jampacked fun weekend!

Sometimes you have those amazing days that you just know God has blessed you with when you need them the most!

I’d say it all goes back to Thursday…. it was a great day.  Had a great time in Salina. Friday I went to work then came home for a while then headed to Topeka and spent the evening with Rachelle…it’d been a little while and was great for some girl time! Saturday I actually slept in! First time since I’ve started the morning show that I was able to sleep in…ok so I woke up about 10 times but forced myself to sleep in until 11. It rocked!!  Did a few things here at home, went to JC to do a few things at work…got stopped by talkative Kay and well didn’t get much done.  Headed to Manhattan where I went to Ben Franklin Crafts and didn’t find what I needed.  However I then met some great friends for dinner and had a great time! It was good to see people I hadn’t seen in a while.  Saturday night I drove back to Abilene got home and had 3 missed calls (left my cell phone at home all day!!! EEEEEK)  Called people back, Jamie came over and we hung out the rest of the night.  Sunday…got up went to Sunday school and church hung out with some great friends…did a little shopping and had a great day!  Got home this evening and made a coffee cake for work tomorrow.  I’ll have to make the frosting in the morning which ought to be fabulous at 4am! I’ve also had some wonderful phone conversations this weekend.  I really feel blessed right now!  But of course always wanting more. 1 month until I take a step…lets hope it doesn’t blow up in my face! What a great weekend! I’m ready to take on the week that faces me.

Leader of the Band November 8, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — joopen @ 9:35 pm

This song was played at the funeral and it fits my grandfather perfectly.  His life revolved around music and his faith.  He was in the Navy in World War II and then was a band director and chior director of many different types through out his life.  Music was his life. He taught many of my relatives as a band director in their schools, was invovled in church chiors and city bands.  He was the leader of our family and the Leader of the Band……

An only child
Alone and wild
A cabinet maker's son
His hands were meant
For different work
And his heart was known
   To none --
He left his home
And went his lone
And solitary way
And he gave to me
A gift I know I never
   can repay
A quiet man of music
Denied a simpler fate
He tried to be a soldier once
But his music wouldn't wait
He earned his love
   Through discipline
A thundering, velvet hand
His gentle means of sculpting souls
Took me years to understand.
The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through
   My instrument
And his song is in my soul --
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy
To the leader of the band.
My brothers' lives were
For they heard another call
One went to Chicago
And the other to St. Paul
And I'm in Colorado
When I'm not in some hotel
Living out this life I've chose
And come to know so well.
I thank you for the music
And your stories of the road
I thank you for the freedom
When it came my time to go --
I thank you for the kindness
And the times when you got tough
And, pap, I don't think I
Said 'I love you' near enough --
The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through
   My instrument
And his song is in my soul --
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy
To the leader of the band
I am the living legacy

To the leader of the band.

Tuesday November 4th November 5, 2008

Tuesday was a big day all over the nation a historical day, an emtional day even for some… Tuesday was all those but for a different reason.  I got a call Tuesday evening telling me that my grandpa died.  Since then everything has come to a hault.  (Matt…I might take you up on your offer for html help but I’m putting a hold on it until next week.)

I went to work today because right now there’s nothing I can do to help.  The funeral will be in Greensburg on Friday.  I think I’m going to head out there Thursday afternoon after work and stay with my friend Teresa in Kinsely.  I just am kinda in shock and unsure of what to do.  It was really hard hearing my dad cry and talking to him about it last night.  I was doing ok with it until about 5am today.  On my way to work I put on some peaceful music on my mp3 player and just lost it all the way to work. I am really glad I went to Council Grove Saturday and got to visit with him…..he was doing so well though!  He stood up 3 times and one time took his hands off the lift machine and said “look ma no hands! I’m standing and No  hands!”  This just seems like a shock.  He was so happy to see me and the folks.  We didn’t expect this at all.  Its just really hard.  I’m sure the next few months will be rough too with the Holidays and everything.

I’m going to try to make it to Sarah’s birthday party in Salina on Saturday (Sarah I really really will try! I hope I can at least stop by for a bit!) but have no clue what’s going on really.  With family and what not. It just seems like my whole world has changed right now.

HTML Headache To My Little brain November 4, 2008

Filed under: work — joopen @ 2:28 pm

Ok so the title doesn’t really make sense. My brain is exhausted.  The show was mediocre at best today.  Yesterday it was kind of blah as well.  Hopefully tomorrow is better.  Meeting day today.  It was fine nothing major….except the idea of me just waving a magical wand to create things! Second meeting after the first, more headache and magic wand scheduled for me.  I like my job I really do and I’m really learning a lot by doing the website.  However, I’m STILL LEARNING  I’ve not been trained in this or anything.  I’m learning as I go basically.  But sometimes its assumed that I can just create whatever needed or wanted and within seconds.  I got most of the stuff done today that was asked but I’ve got quite a bit to work on still.  More logos to create, more pages to create….and a little dare I say H-T-M-L.

So I’ve been getting the hang of simple HTML code and can manage our website pretty well and am doing new stuff all the time… however I’m no where near a HTMLer.  SO if anyone is great at HTML or are an original HTMLer I could use your assistance.  I’m ALMOST there…I’ve almost got figured out what I’m trying to do but I want to tweek 1 small part of it.  I’ve read so many help pages and html codes and tested multiple ones today that I’ve got a headache and feel like I’ve gone insane.  I’m giving it a rest and hopefully going to pick it up in a few hours and have it all figured out. riiiiiiiiight

Meanwhile I think I’ll surf the internet in the comfort of my own home. ahhhhhhh luxury.

Hello Technology my name is Jenn! November 3, 2008

Filed under: Random — joopen @ 4:30 pm

Today is the day I rejoin the technology world! I had the internet installed in my home today!! This excites me very much so.  Makes me a little sad and ashamed I feel I NEED it at home but I’ve come to terms with it.  I lived without it from 6+ months so I’m feeling alright about the purchase.  Now that I work mornings I spend a lot more time (awake) at home and its just strange to not have access to the world, or the world wide web rather, after 2pm. ANYWAY its up and running and I’m excited…. see how excited I am??

What will I do with my new found connection??  Probably e-mail, shop, surf, myspace, read news, watch random youtube videos, facebook, and spend some good quality time on hulu!! Oh and blog of course!
